I thought this website was very user friendly. Everything was easy to understand. And I like the fact that I can download a temporary card while I wait for the original to arrive in the mail.

Standard - CPR / AED

As a registered nurse with many years (>15yrs) of BCLS and ACLS training and work experience, many of your questions raise SERIOUS CONCERNS that this is what you are teaching the general public!!! (I only let my ACLS/BCLS expire because I left the acute care setting recently and went into home care). Several examples of this type of question that will confuse the "non-medical" public or possibly delay CPR are as follows: Test questions such as: "When a patient is unconscious or non-responsive CPR should be performed." True or false. Your answer: "TRUE". This is an INCORRECT "correct" answer! I believe you mean that by "performing CPR" that includes: 1.checking for respirations/breathing 2.checking for pulse (at same time) BEFORE initiating rescue breaths/compressions if needed. BUT THIS QUESTION IS VERY MISLEADING in the way it is phrased. The general "non-medical" public can/will take this to mean START BREATHS and COMPRESSIONS WITHOUT checking for respirations and pulse. A person can be passed out drunk/ high somewhere and be "unconscious and non-responsive" but STILL able to support life-signs/respirations /cardiac activity. PLEASE REPHRASE QUESTION. A second example of your poorly worded test questions that can/may confuse the general public: "you should ask the patient if he/she is okay before performing CPR." True or False? Your correct answer" TRUE". THE MEDICALLY CORRECT ANSWER is FALSE! I will and have told the patient/family what I am doing (even though the patient is non-responsive) and I am only starting CPR/Rescue breaths because the person's cardio/pulmonary system is unable to support life for some reason. My concern is that if the general /"non-medical" public is instructed to ask 1st before starting but then if the patient doesn't respond....??? The general public may think if they don't get a consent/ "yes, its okay to start CPR on me" then they CAN'T START CPR! Please consider rephrasing this question. I believe and know your intentions in education of the public are good, but as a medical professional I do have concerns as too how some of the wording in your education and test questions will be interpreted /MISINTERPRETED by good Samaritans. -Melissa Brodie, RN
